Suicide Squad is a team of super-villains belonging to DC Comics. It first appeared in 1959 in The Brave and the Bold #25. From 1987 onwards, Suicide Squad has its own comic book. Task Force X was created in 1987 by John Ostrander. Amanda Waller sets up a secret government team called Task Force X. The team is made up of the DC Universe's top criminals incarcerated in Belle Reve, Iron Heights or Black Gates prison (depending on the adaptation), some of whom have supernatural abilities and powers. They are sent on missions deemed too dangerous for the US military, suicide missions. Task Force X follows the orders of Amanda Waller, who has the power to blow up their heads with nano-bombs implanted in their necks. If the missions are successful, the team members are given reprieves. The general public is not to be informed of the existence of the Suicide Squad, if a mission fails the members will be held responsible in the eyes of the public and thus serve as a scapegoat for the government. Task Force X" is renamed by various members in the comics as the "Suicide Squad".
